Indonesian language learning at the elementary education level requires strategies that can develop students’ ability to actively and collaboratively identify the main ideas of reading texts. This study aimed to determine the effect of the Cooperative Integrated Reading and Composition (CIRC) model on the ability of fourth-grade students at MI Islamiyah Sangkur to identify the main ideas of reading texts. This study employed a quantitative approach with an experimental method and a one-group pretest-posttest design. The subjects were all 17 fourth-grade students at MI Islamiyah Sangkur. The research instrument was a test measuring students’ ability to identify main ideas, administered in the form of a pretest and posttest. The data were analyzed using the Shapiro-Wilk normality test and a paired-samples t-test with the assistance of SPSS at a significance level of 0.05. The normality test results showed that the pretest and posttest data were normally distributed, with significance values of 0.234 and 0.181 (> 0.05), respectively. The paired-samples t-test resulted in a significance value of 0.000 (< 0.05), with a t-value of -55.637 and an average score increase of 33.235. Therefore, the implementation of the CIRC model had a significant effect on the ability of fourth-grade students at MI Islamiyah Sangkur to identify the main ideas of reading texts.
