Abstract

The development of the industrial world, especially in the food sector, is no stranger to the use of chemicals, this is done so that food products become more durable, usually the chemical used is borax.  Therefore, consumer protection is needed, which is an integral part of healthy business activities.  This study aims to determine the legal protection of consumers of food containing borax and to determine the efforts that can be made by consumers if they suffer losses due to consuming food containing borax.  Using doctrinal or normative juridical method by applying statutory approach and conceptual approach in its writing.  The conclusions gained in this study show that the legal protection received by customers who are injured can be in the form of external legal. According to the study's findings, consumers who suffer harm may be able to get legal protection in the form of external legal protection, which is protection established by the government through laws or regulations that cater to the interests of vulnerable parties.  And if consumers suffer losses, they can pursue settlement efforts in two (two) ways: through court channels (litigation), which refer to the general court's procedural procedures, and through out-of-court (non-litigation) channels through the Consumer Dispute Resolution Agency (BPSK), which has three settlement channels: mediation, conciliation, and arbitration.
